ChromaSnap — TCS3200 RGB Color Detection System
About this project
ChromaSnap uses the TCS3200 color sensor to detect the exact color of any object and display it by name on an LCD — RED, GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, CYAN, MAGENTA, WHITE, or BLACK. The TCS3200 contains an 8×8 array of photodiodes with RGB and clear filters. It outputs a square wave whose frequency is proportional to the intensity of light passing through the selected filter. Arduino reads this frequency using pulseIn() on three channels (R, G, B), normalises them against a white reference, and identifies the color. Three dedicated LEDs (red, green, blue) light up to match the detected primary components visually — yellow object = red LED + green LED both glowing simultaneously. A calibration button recalibrates the white reference on demand. This is the technology behind industrial paint-matching systems, food quality sorters, and color-guided conveyor belts — built for ₹330.
