ThermoVision — MLX90614 IR Non-Contact Thermometer
About this project
ThermoVision measures the temperature of any surface or object without physical contact using the Melexis MLX90614 infrared thermometer IC. The sensor detects infrared radiation emitted by any body above absolute zero, converts it to a temperature reading via an internal thermopile and 17-bit ADC, and delivers the result over SMBus (I2C-compatible). An Arduino reads both object temperature (the target) and ambient temperature (the sensor housing) from two I2C registers, applies the 0.02 K/bit conversion, and displays both in °C, °F, or K selectable by button. A 5-LED colour-zone bar maps the object temperature from cold (blue, <0°C) through body-warm (3 green, ~37°C) to hot (red, >50°C). A pulsing buzzer alarm activates on fever-range detection (37.5–42°C) or dangerously hot surfaces (>60°C).
