CurrentForge — DC Motor Soft-Start Controller
About this project
CurrentForge is a DC motor soft-start controller that eliminates inrush current spikes by ramping the PWM duty cycle gradually instead of switching a motor straight to full voltage. Arduino Uno drives an L298N dual H-bridge motor driver module; BTN_UP and BTN_DN step through five speed levels (0–100 % in 20 % increments), and the firmware ramps the actual PWM smoothly toward the target at 2 counts every 20 ms — reaching full duty cycle in 2.55 seconds instead of an instantaneous jump. Five LEDs on analog pins A0–A4 form a real-time bargraph showing the live duty cycle at every moment. Pin 13 (the Arduino's built-in LED) glows while the ramp is still running and extinguishes the instant it settles, providing a precise soft-start complete indicator. Active braking (both L298N direction inputs HIGH, ENA low) brings the motor to a clean stop at level 0.
