BattPulse — 18650 Li-Ion Internal Resistance Analyzer
About this project
BattPulse is an ESP32-based 18650 Li-ion battery health analyser that measures internal resistance using the pulse discharge method. A logic-level IRLZ44N N-channel MOSFET briefly connects a 5.6Ω load to the battery under test; the ESP32 samples the terminal voltage through a precision resistor divider before and during the pulse while simultaneously reading the discharge current via a 1Ω shunt resistor. Internal resistance is computed as R_int = ΔV_terminal / I_discharge, then classified as GOOD (<80 mΩ), FAIR (80–250 mΩ), or WEAK (>250 mΩ) per IEC 61960 capacity retention benchmarks. A 1.3-inch SH1106 I2C OLED displays V_ocv, discharge current, R_int in milliohms, and a health bargraph. Three indicator LEDs and an ESP32 WiFi dashboard provide simultaneous local and remote readout.
