DoorGuard — Fire Door Hold-Open Controller
About this project
DoorGuard is a fire door hold-open device controller built on Arduino Uno that automatically releases fire-rated doors during fire alarm conditions. The system uses a 12V electromagnet to hold fire doors open during normal building operations, improving accessibility and traffic flow. When a fire alarm input signal is received, the electromagnet immediately de-energizes, releasing the door to close automatically and prevent smoke/fire spread. A manual override button allows testing door closure without triggering building alarms. The 16×2 I2C LCD displays door status (HELD OPEN / RELEASED), alarm input state, and hold duration. This project demonstrates fire door management principles required by building codes to balance daily accessibility with fire compartmentation safety.
