ThermaNet DS18B20 Three-Zone Temperature Monitor
About this project
ThermaNet connects three DS18B20 digital temperature sensors to a single Arduino data pin and reads all three simultaneously using the Dallas 1-Wire protocol. All three sensors share one wire — Arduino D2 — yet each is individually addressed through its factory-programmed 64-bit ROM code. The system monitors three independent temperature zones, shows all readings on a 16×2 LCD in real time, lights a dedicated alert LED per zone when its temperature exceeds a configurable threshold, and pulses a buzzer on any active alarm. The Serial Monitor prints all three readings every second alongside their 64-bit ROM addresses in hex — paste the address into the Dallas Semiconductor datasheet to read the factory serial number embedded in bytes 1–6. This project teaches the 1-Wire protocol — a genuinely unusual bus architecture where master and slaves share a single bidirectional line, devices are powered from that same line in parasitic mode, and 200+ sensors can coexist on one Arduino pin. It also covers the DS18B20 scratchpad register map, CRC-8 data integrity verification, and the simultaneous temperature conversion command that reads all sensors in one 750ms window instead of sequentially. Build time: 3 hours.
